17 students from 11 different countries participated in a three-day workshop Luca Missoni, son of the founders of the Missoni fashion house, Octavio and Rosita Missoni.
He shared his passion for fabrics and colourful fabric stamping with the city of Madrid, and with the designers taking part in EDL’09.
Over the course of the workshop, Gala Fernández, Elisa Beotas and Luca Missoni worked together with the group by using the one-piece suits of Missoni called VISITORS, which cover the whole body, including the hands and even the head. These “jumpsuits” form part of an experimental project by Luca Missoni, the face of the fashion label who stages exhibitions in museums worldwide with special projects related to art, theatre and dance.
The Visitors are a reflection of our multicultural world and mark the cutting-edge of MISSONI’s work as it looks towards the future.
The suits are made from knitted pin-striped fabric, all sporting a dynamic design. Both those produced in black and white and their more colourful counterparts produce a startling effect, particularly when paired with a day-to-day urban environment, as has been done.
While the performances were prepared and carried out using these “Visitors”, the EDL’09 participants also worked on and developed their own individual projects and graphic and visual concepts, which were showcased in a brochure specially designed for the occasion.
The result, which was also documented in a video and numerous photos, enjoyed an enthusiastic response from Luca Missoni, who highlighted both the conceptual variety and the formal quality of the presentation.
